Children enter into their Mercy blog their thoughts on this question.

Throughout the term have children collect stories that appear in the newspaper or magazines where people demonstrate thier works of service. Throughout the term build up a collage depicting these stories.

Place children into groups of 3 - 4
give each group one of the following words

  1. prejudice
  2. barrier
  3. rejection
  4. acceptance
  5. exclusions
  6. inclusion
  7. stereotyping
  8. discrimination

Groups must come up with a definition
Examples of where they may see this in the world
Present their findings in poster form to display around the opening learning centre.

4. Using the same word as above groups must create a keynote presentation of two slides for a prayer focus on social justice.

Read Matthew 5:1 - 12 The Beatitudes

Set the scene of Jesus preaching on a hillside in Palestine. Read the passage again. Put quiet music on and ask the students to imagine that they are on the hill and Jesus is talking to them. re read the text using the word “you” instead of “they”

Students complete a script using pages.

In this script they must have a conversation with Jesus. Asking questions about the Beatitudes and suggesting ways that they may show how the Beatitudes would look in the modern world.

They can present their interviews on imovie or as an podcast

Students in groups illustrate one of the Beatitudes .
Display as a quilt effect in the classroom


6. FROZEN STATUE

In groups the children each take one of the Beatitudes and create a frozen statue of their understanding of what it means to be ie. poor in spirit

7. Read Matthew 25:31 - 46 the Last Judgement. Discuss how his text is the way in which we will be judged as how we have lived out the Beatitudes.

Using wordle students individually complete a word brainstorm depicting their understanding of this passage

INTERVIEW AND SCRIPT

Interview and report witnesses to Jesus’ extraordinary statement in the Synagogue Luke 4:16 - 19
Children read the text and develop their script. Record their interviews and include it in iweb.
